We had our 279th Homecoming at Black River on May the 5th. It rained in the morning, but the sun was out by the end of service.
Our guest speaker was Rev. Jerrod Lowry, the new General Presbyter of Coastal Carolina. His sermon was entitled "Recognising Jesus" and was meant to inspire all of us to be disciples of the Lord. The congregation indicated that the sermon was one of the best in our recent Homecoming history.
We welcomed back Andy Simpson and his wife Ann as our bagpipers and Barbara Gurganious Keefe as our piano payer and organist.
This Homecoming was special because it highlighted for all the completion of the renovation of the Sanctuary and Fellowship hall that was carried out due to the flooding from Hurricane Florence. A lot of hard work went into making sure that we were ready for Homecoming 2019. We could not have done it without help from St. Andrews of the Covenant in Wilmington and St. Andrews Presbyterian in Raleigh.
The meal on the grounds was a huge success, as usual. There was too much food to allow everyone to sample everything, but all went away full of their favorites.
It was enjoyable to be able to visit with people that we only see once a year and to catch up on everyone's lives. And it was wonderful to have the Sanctuary filled with so many voices singing praises to God.
